British Council

The British Council is the United Kingdoms international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. We connect people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and build lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. We are the worlds largest provider of English language services – teaching, teacher training, research and certification. We teach or certify over 1.5 million English learners globally every year. We commissioned path-breaking research on the status and future of the English language by the noted UK linguist David Graddol, Future of English in 1997 and English Next in 2006. The British Council, with its regional Project English aims to address the challenges and issues facing industry by working together with partners to plug the training gap and to help build capacity in English language competence and intercultural communication skills.
