CMC Ltd

CMC Limited was incorporated on December 26, 1975 as Computer Maintenance Corporation Private Ltd with the GoI holding 100% of the equity shares with a primary objective of hardware maintenance of mainframe installations across the country. On August 19, 1977, CMC was converted into a public limited company. In early 80s, realizing the need for total IT solutions in India and the thrust on IT development, CMC acquired a ‘solutions orientation and forayed into systems integration, installation, commissioning, software development, and education and training. In line with diversified business focus, the name of the company was changed to “CMC Limitedâ€ï† vide a fresh certificate of incorporation dated August 27, 1984 issued by the RoC. In 2001, GoI disinvested 51% of the Companys equity share capital in favor of Tata Sons Ltd through a strategic sale, following which TSL assumed management control of the company. In Feb. 2004, the GoI divested its residual shareholding in the Company of 26.25 % of the equity share capital through an open sale offer. In March 2004 CMC Ltd became a subsidiary of TCS Ltd subsequent to the transfer by Tata Sons of its entire holdings of CMC shares to the former. CMCs focus has been providing end-to-end solutions to meet the IT requirements of the market. The major services / service categories it offers to the market are: - IT Infrastructure service - Third party product implementation - CMC Asset based solutions - Education and training services - IT enabled services - Embedded Systems services - Software development and maintenance Depending on the need of a specific customer, CMC also provides niche services such as information security consulting and IT infrastructure planning. To fully address the customer requirements, it may team with other vendors for niche services such as site preparation and desktop maintenance.
